Who we are
We are William Reed.
We are the leading expert in the global Food & Drink industry.
From manufacturing through to retail and hospitality – we provide the inspiration, insight and connections to power our customers’ success.
Our specialists are deeply engaged in their markets and are recognised as the most trusted professionals in their field.
For 160 years, our diverse portfolio of trusted brands has delivered the information our clients need, reaching audiences through outstanding digital media, insights, prestigious awards, innovative exhibitions, events and print.
Fulfilling our role in the 21st century has meant harnessing digital channels to deliver insightful journalism and high-value data to businesses the world over. Guided by our Mission & Values, our Group’s activities now include category defining digital and print media, innovative business events and conferences, prestigious awards and informative conferences. We offer compelling research and powerful insights to our customers as well as providing recruitment and e-learning solutions within our core markets.
We are in the midst of a cost of living crisis and The Grocer needs a reporter who can help us to chart inflation among the leading food and drink retailers and suppliers, and report on how shoppers manage and mitigate the situation to the best of their abilities.
You will be responsible for compiling and collating The Grocer 33, our weekly ‘mystery shopping’ competition, which tracks and compares product prices, and uses mystery shoppers around the country to score service and availability at the leading supermarkets and online retailers.
In addition there is scope to find and examine other data sources and unlock the stories behind the numbers in all our shopping baskets.
It’s a real opportunity to explore shopper trends, from how stores cater to different demographics, to new fixtures and features, to the demographics of particular towns and cities, as well as online shopping. And we are looking for a bright and ambitious multi-media journalist, who can write interestingly and cleverly about shopping behaviours in food and drink for our B2B audience.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with both writing and managing data (using Excel) and will relish extrapolating data to help tell the story of the cost of living crisis in a compelling visual way too.
The Grocer is one of the UK’s most influential and high-profile business media publications, winning countless awards for its progressive, campaigning and investigative approach, and the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed, a fast-growing family-owned publishing company with offices in the UK, France, the US and Singapore.
Working on The Grocer means you will join a big team of journalists, with lots of training and career development opportunities, and we also offer a competitive salary and benefits, as well as remote-working options and flexible hours for the right candidate.
What we’re looking for:
· An interest in data analysis and data visualisation
· Good working knowledge of data tools (including Excel)
· Strong writing skills to help convey information and stories clearly and compellingly
· Ambition and the desire to succeed and progress
We provide a supportive work environment and are committed to maintaining a healthy work/life balance for all of our employees. Working for William Reed means that you will be joining a stable organisation that is committed to developing its employees and brands.
We have offices in Gatwick and London, UK; Montpellier, France; Singapore and Chicago, US. In line with the Company’s current Agile Working Policy, the successful candidate would be eligible to work part of the week from our Crawley office and to work remotely for the rest of the week.
We warmly welcome and encourage applications from talented individuals of all backgrounds and characteristics. If you need any support in accessing this opportunity, please do not hesitate to discuss this with us.
