We have an exciting opportunity for an Events Manager to join our team, working across our Morning Advertiser, BigHospitality and MCA brands. The Events Manager manages events in the capacity of project leader, playing an active role in overseeing the necessary work to deliver the event. The Events Manager takes an active role in ensuring the smooth running of the event and must be able to deal with any issues on site in a calm and professional manner.

In consultation with the Group Events Manager, the Event Manager will ensure the events they lead on are kept current and are perceived as credible within the industries they serve. The jobholder must be passionate about making the events happen, pushing their projects forward to ensure year-on-year improvement in every aspect.


Key Responsibilities:

Budget –

  • Draft Events budgets where applicable for approval by Group Events Manager/Managing Director
  • Sign off invoices up to agreed sign off limit

Critical Path –

  • Create a critical path, manage the critical path and hold regular client update meetings.
  • Where required, generate an awareness and marketing campaign leading up to an event in conjunction with the marketing team and see through to launch to incorporate editorial coverage with the client
  • Ensure all elements are carried out on time and in accordance with the critical path

Venue –

  • Carry out venue research where required, negotiate rates and request contract for internal approval. Manage this process
  • Decide on the menu with the client; attend menu tasting if required

Judging –

  • Manage the judging/voting and ensure all results/quotes are correctly documented

AV/Production –

  • Manage AV on applicable events
  • Become a primary contact for all contractors

Entertainment –

  • Take a brief and book entertainment and presenters, hostesses, theming where required
  • Devise Creative elements

Speakers –

  • Manage speakers at conferences

Ceremony –

  • Write running order and script/Run of Show

Sponsors –

  • Become a primary contact for sponsors and be actively involved in client activation management where applicable.
  • Manage sponsors activations where required

PR –

  • Work with PR team where required

At Events –

  • Manage the venue
  • Ensure all activations are set up where agreed – bars, tables etc
  • Manage the AV team
  • Run the rehearsal
  • Act as primary contact for and brief presenters and cabaret
  • Run briefings for finalists and sponsors
  • Remain at event until close
  • Manage other members of the team
  • Troubleshoot / solve any issues

Post Event –

  • Chair the debrief
  • Book venue for following year
  • Brief marketing on feedback
  • Update budget and consolidate with accounts

General –

  • Actively brief Group Events Manager as requested
  • Attend internal/external meetings where required
  • Write Event Risk Assessment where required
  • Approve all correspondence with entrants, guests, sponsors and judges
  • Generate/approve copy for tickets/guest lists/certificates
  • Attend F2F Meetings
  • Manage any online developments on relevant events

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as the role involve building relationships with internal colleagues across the department, as well as external third parties
  • Passionate
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and deal with onsite issues quickly and efficiently
  • Understanding of commercials
