Position

We are looking for an Editor in Chief to join our Global Brands team. Global Brands is a division within William Reed, our websites and events offer a 360-degree view of the food, nutrition, pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors globally.

Together they deliver daily news and analysis, online and face to face events, podcasts and videos covering the issues and stories impacting decision makers in these fast-moving sectors. Our role is to bring together our communities and deliver them the most up to date insight to help inform and facilitate business decisions.

This role will be a highly visible market-facing role, and we would expect you to get absorbed within our related markets quickly. Forging relationships with all the key associations, networking with customers present and future acting as our editorial ambassador in EMEA.

The Editor in Chief be responsible for driving the editorial development of FoodNavigator.com, Food Verticals, and associated brand extensions by:

· Championing a clear and differentiated editorial road-map for the titles, driven by core primary readership

· Delivering high quality editorial content in multi-media and written formats

· Suggesting new FoodNavigator.com brand development opportunities to the Managing Director, implementing where required

· Maintaining and strengthening brand’s editorial authority and visibility in its market and engaging actively with primary audience

· Collaborating with sales, marketing, and event managers within a framework of editorial integrity

· Working closely with all existing and new European content brands within the Global Brands portfolio.

· Collaborating with other divisions across William Reed where there are areas of potential opportunity or synergy

· Contribute to projects of potential benefit to our brands based in Europe in collaboration with other departments

· Manage and mentor a team of journalists, sharing best practice and support their development within the team/the company

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

CONTENT

· Research and deliver compelling daily content

· Edit website copy

· Develop content and innovation ideas for FoodNavigator.com

· Actively use social media for lead sourcing, content sharing and contact building

· Monitor growth and user engagement of core readership and subscriber-base, using Adobe Analytics in regular consultation with Digital Marketing

· Coordinate and collaborate on future content strategies in close alignment with divisional management and other content teams

BRAND DEVELOPMENT

· Organise topics / briefs / speakers for potential brand extensions (special editions, online / F2F events, awards etc.)

· Moderate at online / F2F events relevant to our European brands

· Monitor competition to pick up on possible areas of threat or opportunity

· Keep an eye on industry segments and areas of potential opportunity for FoodNavigator, particularly areas with F2F potential

NETWORKING

· Attend key food industry trade events and conferences in Europe and occasionally beyond

· Raise FoodNavigator profile and recognition levels (speaker opportunities, panels etc.)

· Actively engage and develop relationship with key industry figures

· Coordinate joint business visits with sales teams where appropriate to demonstrate brand unity and clearly define editorial standards

INTERNAL COLLABORATION

· Maintain regular dialogue with global editorial counterparts in Asia and the US to ensure our European focus complements and differentiates appropriately

Candidate Profile

  • Trained business / multimedia journalist with strong B2B related industry experience
  • Strong leadership qualities and proven managerial track record
  • Deep knowledge of the European food industry, digital media and content strategies
  • Portfolio of food industry contacts a plus
  • Strong business sense with excellent networking and interpersonal skills
  • Equally comfortable delivering written or multi-media content
  • Confident public speaker / moderator
  • Good diplomacy skills
  • Solid knowledge of social media channels
  • Highly collaborative
  • Imaginative and strong sense of initiative
  • Well organised and ability to prioritise effectively
