The Grocer is the UK’s biggest and most interesting B2B brand, with a multi-award-winning team of journalists and editors covering everything from the cost of living crisis, to health and obesity strategy; from food and drink trends devised by startups and giant corporates, to sustainability, food waste and much more.
And we’ve invested heavily in thegrocer.co.uk in the past few years to grow traffic, increase subscriptions and improve the user experience, posting hundreds of articles online every week and publishing several newsletters every day.
As such the web team is the engine room of The Grocer’s multi-media operations, linking in with a weekly magazine, multiple newsletters, as well as webinars, awards, conference and other activities. And we’re particularly proud of the fact that The Grocer’s award-winning website is now more highly rated than the (still) hugely successful 160-year-old magazine itself.
For this role we’re on the lookout for an outstanding digital and social media editor to drive our continued digital expansion and development, someone who can drive the engine efficiently and effectively (and ideally faster and better), optimising content (with the help of an assistant), helping us to find new users and engage existing users on our digital channels, working with and supporting journalists across the newsroom, while also contributing story ideas of your own, including listicles, videos, podcasts and other digital-only content.
As such the ideal candidate will…
- Have strong technical skills in digital production, including the ability to control and manage content management systems, combined with a thorough understanding of SEO.
- Have a strong grasp of social media trends and techniques and an understanding of its role in supporting a subscriptions-based publication.
- Be a leader and a team player, who can engage with a large news desk, as well as our subs, art & photo desks, and our events, commercial content, digital marketing and web support staff.
- Be an experienced multi-media journalist and editor, with fast and strong writing, editing and A/V skills.
- Be organised, intelligent, ambitious, and with a strong work ethic.
- Have a strong interest in food and drink retailing and supply.

We have offices in Gatwick and London, UK; Montpellier, France; Singapore and Chicago, US. In line with the Company’s current Agile Working Policy, the successful candidate would be eligible to work part of the week from our Crawley office and to work remotely for the rest of the week.
