Drinks Editor - The Grocer Posted 06.02.2017

Role overview

The Grocer is looking for a multi-media business journalist to lead our coverage of the alcoholic drinks industry in all its intoxicating, colourful and controversial glory.

You’ll be covering sales performance, consumer trends, innovation, ranging & merchandising, branding, pricing etc. across the leading suppliers and retailers.

The Grocer is the multi-award-winning bible of the fmcg market, one of the UK’s biggest, most interesting and most high-profile business media publications, and the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed group, a family-owned publishing and events business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France and the US.

We're based in Crawley, just 30 minutes from the lively seaside town of Brighton, and 10 minutes from Gatwick, with its fast connections to London and the world.

Core responsibilities

Your brief is to break important stories, with a licence to write (and record and collate) intelligent and thought-provoking blogs, analysis pieces, features and profiles. You will also be responsible for developing The Grocer’s Drink Awards.

Required experience and skills

Ideally you’ll have previous knowledge of the drinks business, though this is not essential. The qualities that are non-negotiable are:

  • The personality, curiosity and intelligence to develop and work senior-level contacts.
  • A strong interest in the topic, and experience of business or consumer affairs news.
  • Multi-media skills, including an understanding of new media, social networking and, ideally, audio-visual.

It’s a high pressure role, but for the right candidate, it offers huge job satisfaction, a good career path, a competitive salary, as well as company benefits including a pension scheme and subsidized gym membership.

Company benefits include

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days Holiday (plus Bank Holidays)
  • Contributory pension
  • Life Assurance
  • Group Income Protection Scheme
